2018 Henderson County Toy Run on Saturday, Nov. 17

The 2018 Henderson County Toy Run on Saturday, Nov. 17 will give participants the opportunity to provide toys and cash donations to make Christmas a truly joyous time for abused and neglected children in Henderson County.

Participants will enjoy the 24-mile parade route that runs from Bill Moore Community Park (Fletcher Park) to Fanning Bridge, down Hwy 280, onto Brickyard Rd. out to Hwy 64, onto Main Street to 3rd Avenue, and finally at the Courthouse.

Registration begins at 10:00 am at Bill Moore Community Park and ends at 1:00 pm. Every participant donating a new toy (valued at $15) or the cash equivalent will receive a barbecue sandwich lunch, be entertained with music provided, and have the chance to win door prizes.

Toy Run t-shirts and sweatshirts will be sold at the event. Also, a 50/50 cash drawing and a silent auction will coincide with the pre-ride activities. After a review of safety tips, riders leave the park at 1:30 pm and wind their way across the county to the new Courthouse.

The public is invited to attend the motorcycle parade down Hendersonville’s Main Street over to the Henderson County Courthouse at the end of the ride around 2:30 pm.

“The parade of motorcycles streaming into the courthouse is an awesome sight! And watching the Courthouse steps fill with toys brings tears to your eyes,” Chairwoman Kimberly Carland said.

According to Arline Foster, Henderson County DSS Foster Care Program, “Nearly 150 children from infant to 18 years old are cared for by foster parents in Henderson County. Many of the children in the foster care system came with just the clothes on their backs. The kids have expressed a desire to have their own books, puzzles, games, cars/trucks, baby dolls and even CDs and MP3 players.”
