Mills River Breaks Ground on New Ballfield

The Town of Mills River has broken ground on its newest addition to Mills River Park. The new ballfield is designed to accommodate users from t-ball to adults.

The field will feature moveable bases and a portable pitchers mound, users of all ages and abilities will have a chance to enjoy the new field.

Last month the town council approved a contract with Carolina Specialties in the amount of $424,000. The project includes the field, fencing, dugouts, and seating areas. Construction should be completed by the fall of 2020.

Generous support of the community helped make this project a reality. In particular, Mitch Gaither, Brian Rose, and Kirby Johnson of Flavor First Growers and Packers, a local produce grower and packaging operation in Mills River, donated $100,000 towards this project.

A special thank you also goes out to current and previous members of town council and the town’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee as well as the Mills River Recreation Foundation for their support.

Mills River Park is located at 124 Town Center Drive in Mills River.
