The Kruger Brothers will be the featured performers at The Center for Cultural Preservation’s Keeping the Fires Burning series in January. Jens and Uwe Kruger, native Swiss musicians had a dream of living in Western North Carolina where their beloved musical idol, Doc Watson, haled from. But they didn’t get the chance to experience the true bluebloods of bluegrass until they performed at MerleFest in 1997.
Since that time, the Kruger Brothers have become consummate musicians and entertainers who deftly combine the most tasteful components of American folk and jazz with classical European styles recreating mountain music in their own distinctive style.
According to Center Executive Director David Weintraub, “What makes mountain music so unique is that it’s a blended tradition of Scots-Irish, African-American and many other legacies combined to create a musical power that captures the imagination of the listener. The Kruger Brothers combine these mountain music traditions with their own European flair that have been touching the hearts of world-wide audiences for over two decades.”
The concert is a fundraiser to help the Center for Cultural Preservation raise the finishing funds for their new film on the River Heroes of the South. The concert is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 pm at the Bo Thomas Auditorium on the campus of Blue Ridge Community. Tickets are $25 and $20 a person and are going fast.
