Duke Energy Awards Grant to Hands On! Children’s Museum

Hands On! Children’s Museum kicks off the new year with a $6,000 grant from Duke Energy to support interactive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs.

According to the museum’s Executive Director, Joseph Knight “We are so excited to receive funding from Duke Energy to support our STEM programs. We offer both onsite and offsite STEM learning experiences that ignite wonder and promote curiosity for over 38,000 people annually. This grant will allow our museum to enhance the quality of informal STEM Education for children throughout Western NC. Hands On! is committed to inspiring all children to realize their full potential in a STEM career, and we thank Duke Energy for their generous support.”

Hands On! celebrated its tenth year of operation in 2017 and has reached over 250,000 children during the last decade. As the museum enters its eleventh year of operation, plans are underway to increase its presence throughout Henderson County and the Western NC Community. Hands On! will develop and implement new and exciting STEM programs that complement the NC Essential Standards for Science. Renovations are also planned for the museum’s Discovery Room, a fun classroom environment where interactive science programs are facilitated.

According Duke Energy’s Local Government and Community Relations Manager, Craig DeBrew, “We value the interactive STEM programs that Hands On! Children’s Museum provides to the youth of Western NC.
