AMBUCS Donates Adapted Tricycle to Bruce Drysdale

Thank you to Western Carolina Friends, the local chapter of AMBUCS, for providing Bruce Drysdale Elementary with an adapted tricycle!

The national organization provides AmTryke therapeutic hand-and-foot tricycles to individuals with physical limitations, awards academic scholarships to physical therapists and engages in accessibility service projects.

Allan Berg and Ron Ontko of the local AMBUCS chapter delivered the AmTryke to Bruce Drysdale on Thursday, Feb. 4, after being inspired to donate the trike after reading in the paper about Bruce Drysdale’s forthcoming inclusive playground.

“It costs the recipient absolutely nothing,” Berg said. “There’s only one requirement: the individual has to be assisted by a physical therapist,” in using the trike, he said.

Cheryl Deyton, Henderson County Public Schools physical therapist, helped Exceptional Children students take turns on the bike Thursday afternoon, during Ileta Silvia’s physical education classes.

“It helps with eye and body coordination, leg strength, overall trunk strength, and is a functional play tool,” Deyton said.
