Grants Available for Manufactured Home Removal

Henderson County residents with an abandoned manufactured home on their property are invited to apply for a grant to have the home removed.

The grant will pay $1,000 toward the demolition of each home. The applicant will be responsible for the remainder of the demolition cost, typically $500. For applicants with an annual income of less than $32,700, Henderson County has funding available to pay the difference. Henderson County participated in this grant from February 2010 through February 2011 and removed 25 abandoned manufactured homes. We have again been awarded this reimbursement grant.

In 2008, House Bill 1134 was enacted to protect public health and the environment by encouraging counties to develop plans that provide for the deconstruction of abandoned manufactured homes and the removal of reusable or recyclable components, by providing for the abatement of abandoned manufactured homes that are determined to be a nuisance, and to designate that a portion of the Solid Waste Management Trust Fund be used to fund the deconstruction and removal of the abandoned manufactured homes.

In order to be considered for this grant an individual must submit an application for consideration. The application can be downloaded from: www.hendersoncountync.org/ces/documents/POAagreement.pdf or obtained in person at 100 N. King Street, Hendersonville. To receive the application by e-mail, fax or postal mail, contact Toby Linville at (828) 694-6627 or send him an e-mail at [email protected].
