Six automotive students at Blue Ridge Community College recently received a gift of Blue-Point by Snap-On toolkits from Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance. They are regarded as top quality with lifetime warranties, valued at $500.
The toolkit consists of a basic starter kit for automotive technicians including a variety of tools such as wrenches, sockets, ratchets, screwdriver and bits, and pliers, all in both metric and standard measurements.
Driving Young America (DYA), the charitable arm of Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance, provided the toolkits for the Blue Ridge Community College students. DYA supports students seeking a career in the automotive industry. The toolkits are part of DYA’s Tools for Techs program, which was conceived after recognizing that purchasing tools was a significant expense for new automotive students.
Blue Ridge was selected as the pilot partner for DYA due to the mutual long- standing relationships with the Great Smoky Mountains Region Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America.
“When students go into a shop for the first time, they need to have a basic set of tools to get started working on vehicles. It gives them an advantage when they’re going into the automotive industry to have these top-of-the-line toolkits,” stated Blue Ridge Automotive Systems Technology Instructor Brian Johnson.
Johnson believes that the high quality of the toolkits means they’ll last these students a lifetime, and they can always add more tools to their toolkit as they gain more experience and time in the field.
The student recipients were recommended by Blue Ridge Transportation program faculty. The student recipients are Daniel Lunsford, Eric Alonzo, Natasha Revis, Isaac Renegar, Sam Interlicchia, and Justin Buckner.
