Hendersonville Farmers Market to Launch When Mandates Are Lifted

Hendersonville Farmers Market will be ready to launch its inaugural season once the COVID-19 threat has substantially decreased.

The market’s opening day, originally scheduled for May 9, will take place approximately two weeks after when:

a) both local and state Stay at Home orders have been lifted, and
b) local and state officials have deemed it safe for gatherings of at least 100 people to take place.

While the state and local emergency orders identified farmers markets as essential businesses, the downtown program felt that proceeding before the thresholds noted above satisfied raised multiple organizational concerns. The organization arrived at this decision after not only assessing what hosting the event safely would entail and discussing these details with vendors, stakeholders and city officials, but also considering the original intent of establishing the Hendersonville Farmer’s Market.

“We want to make sure we are respecting and caring for our volunteers, vendors, staff, and the larger community,” said Downtown Economic Development Director Lew Holloway. “Our original vision for the market was not only a connection with our agricultural community, but also a festive weekly gathering for locals and visitors. We don’t want to lose that original intent in our zeal to get the market established.”

The public can stay tuned to Hendersonville Farmers Market’s Facebook page and website for information regarding the operation of the market. The Downtown Program staff continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and plans on implementing appropriate health and safety protocols during the market once it’s open.

Now all there’s left to do is stay home and wait as patiently as possible. Farmers are planting and artisans are creating!

The Hendersonville Farmers Market will take place at the Historic Train Depot on Maple Street every Saturday, 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., from its start date until October 31, with two holiday markets slated for November 28 and December 5. Hendersonville Farmers Market is a SNAP/EBT retailer and is excited to offer a “double your dollars” promotion to SNAP/EBT recipients.
