The Wrinkled Egg to Host Exhibition by Local Artist Jennifer Mills

The Wrinkled Egg in Flat Rock will host an artist reception and exhibition of work by Jennifer Mills, Betty Taylor Award recipient, on Thursday, November 14, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

Mills will show and explain a new body of work made possible through the Betty Taylor Award, funded by the Community Foundation of Henderson County, and provided through the Arts Council of Henderson County. The Wrinkled Egg is located at 2710 Greenville Hwy., Flat Rock, NC.

Western North Carolina artist Jennifer Mills credits her first ever Best of Show honors to receiving the 2018/2019 Betty Taylor Award.Citing “growth through generosity,” Mills, who received Best of Show honors at the 2019 Greer Juried Exhibition this summer, says “this grant allowed me to gain tremendous insight and confidence from workshops and one-on-one studies with some of the country’s finest teachers and artists, several of whom are right here in our backyard.” Among others, Jim Carson of Saluda, Sarah Sneeden of Brevard, and Mary Grayson Segars of Beaufort, South Carolina offered mentoring.

In addition, the grant money allowed Mills to create and donate over a dozen works for charities, good will efforts and local downtown development projects. “Morris gets a Shower” went to the Polk County Fire Department after the loss of their fire chief of 53 years. “My motto is ‘pass it on,’ which is exactly what the Betty Taylor Award has allowed me to do both as a student and as an artist. I am forever grateful.”

The Betty Taylor Memorial Award for emerging artists in visual arts and crafts is offered each year in conjunction with the Regional Artist Project grant program administered by the Arts Council of Henderson County. Award winners are committed to pursuing deeper study and continue to new levels of achievement within the area of visual arts and crafts. The Betty Taylor Memorial Fund was established at the Community Foundation of Henderson County after Taylor’s death in 1990, and Jennifer Mills is the third artist to receive this significant award. The Arts Council of Henderson County, along with the Community Foundation of Henderson County, selects one emerging artist annually from artists living in Henderson, Polk or Transylvania counties. The grant award is specifically geared toward helping emerging visual artists develop their craft through further study.

This event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served by The Wrinkled Egg.
