Bullington Gardens, a horticultural education center and public gardens, will hold its annual fall plant sale on Friday, Sept. 6, and Saturday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, rain or shine.
The sale features many fall-blooming perennials, mums, asters, shrubs and native plants. The event also includes a Garden Shed sale of gently-used gardening tools, decorative pots, garden furniture, yard art and books. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.
“Fall is the ideal time to plant perennials, trees and shrubs. The weather is cool but the soil is still warm, which encourages excellent root growth without stimulating flowering that comes with spring planting,” says Joellen Johnson, a Henderson County Extension Master Gardener and Bullington Garden’s Volunteer Coordinator.
Bullington’s greenhouses are bursting with fresh, fall-blooming perennials. Throughout the summer, volunteers and Extension Master Gardeners nurture and repot the growing plants which minimizes root-bound conditions often found in the late growing season.
The public is encouraged to donate items to the Garden Shed sale. Drop-offs are accepted at Bullington Gardens from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., any Monday through Friday. Chemical products cannot be accepted.
All proceeds from the Fall Plant and Garden Shed sale benefit Bullington’s mission to connect children and adults with the natural world through science-based horticultural education; to demonstrate the beauty and value of native and ornamental plants through themed public gardens; and to enhance life skills for children and adults with physical or mental challenges through horticultural therapy.
