Blue Ridge Community College Adds New Transfer Agreements With Gardner-Webb University

There is now a clear pathway for students who want to earn an associate degree in accounting, early childhood, business administration, information technology, or criminal justice at Blue Ridge Community College and then move on to work toward their bachelor’s degrees at GWU in related fields.

“By following the course of study outlined in the articulation agreements, students can easily see how their course work will transfer, how it will apply to their bachelor’s degree program, and what courses they will have remaining to complete their bachelor’s degree,” Dean for Business and Service Careers Brenda Blackburn said. “Blue Ridge students can gain valuable workplace training with their associate degree here as well as fulfill their aspirations for a bachelor’s degree by following these transfer pathways.”

Leslie noted that the agreement with Blue Ridge addresses a need for students who pursue the Applied Associate of Science Degree. “North Carolina Community College students who pursue an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree have many opportunities for seamless transfer to four-year institutions through the North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement,” Leslie said. “Unfortunately, that agreement does not address the needs of students who pursue the Applied Associate of Science degree. Gardner-Webb is proud to help address that deficiency as we enter into this partnership with Blue Ridge.”

The transfer agreement will provide opportunities to graduates of Blue Ridge accounting, business, criminal justice, and early childhood programs to follow the same streamlined pathway toward transfer to Gardner-Webb that students currently enjoy under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for AA and AS degrees. It will directly benefit Blue Ridge students by reducing unnecessary repetition of courses already taken and providing the maximum benefit for recognizing work already accomplished.
