Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site Seeks Volunteers

Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site is recruiting candidates for a new volunteer position, the “Sandburg Steward.” Recruitment sessions will occur on April 24 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and on April 25 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, in the garage next to the Sandburg Home.

Sandburg Stewards will assist the park in protecting the irreplaceable artifacts on exhibit in the Sandburg Home.  Stewards will assist house tour docents in keeping tour groups together, monitor objects along the tour route, answer questions, and help assist disabled visitors, so people of all abilities can experience the Sandburg story. Benefits include: one-on-one training by professional museum staff; the ability to work closely with the park’s museum collection;  the opportunity to gain intimate knowledge of Sandburg family legacy and park history; being part of a larger team that actively protects our nation’s treasures; and recognition during the park’s annual volunteer celebration  banquet.

To learn more, please come to the Sandburg Stewards Open House on April 24th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm or on April 25th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The event will be held in the garage behind the Sandburg Home at the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site.
