Hendersonville’s First United Methodist Church Hosts Rev. Marjorie Thompson

First United Methodist Church will host a weekend program with guest speaker Rev. Marjorie Thompson on Friday, Feb. 22 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and Saturday, Feb. 23 from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.

Rev. Thompson was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and brings to her ministry over 30 years of retreat work and teaching in Christian formation and spiritual practice. Thompson’s educational path includes McCormick Theological Seminary and a research fellowship at Yale Divinity School where she was deeply influenced by her mentor, Henri Nouwen.

“Rev. Marjorie Thompson is one of the spiritual leaders of our time. Her ministry and teachings are transformative, even life-changing, for people of faith,” says Rev. Christy Sharp, associate pastor at FUMC. “Thompson exposes the false idols in our culture, and teaches us how to grow closer to God by bringing practical wisdom for adults of any age who want to strengthen their spiritual walk.”

Thompson is the author of several books including best-selling Soul Feast: An Invitation to the Christian Spiritual Life as well as Courage for Caregivers: Sustenance for the Journey in Company with Henri J.M. Nouwen.

Registrations are accepted through www.fumchvlnc.org under the Ministries tab until Wednesday, Feb. 20. A $10 fee per person for lunch can be paid online or at the door.

Rev. Thompson is also the guest preacher at FUMC on Sunday, Feb. 24. Service times are 8:30, 9:15 and 11:00 am. The 8:30 and 11:00 am services are traditional; the 9:15 am service is contemporary.
