Team ECCO Announces New Shark Hatchling

A baby shark recently hatched at The Aquarium and Shark Lab of Team ECCO. It has been transferred into an acrylic grow chamber, suspended in the main tank.

While in the chamber, their shark team will monitor length, respiration, eye placement and more.

The pup will remain in the chamber for two weeks. After the yolk has been fully absorbed by the pup, they will wait another 5-7 days then release the pup into a special holding enclosure. They will then start hand-feeding and imprinting for recognition.

This will be the 5th hatchling and Team ECCO will look for it to be the 3rd successful growth pup, as they’ve lost two previous pups to yolk anomalies and early self hatching. The public is encouraged to attend and witness this amazing event! Regular admission applies.

The Team ECCO Aquarium & Shark Lab is the only ocean education lab and hands-in marine study center in Western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina and Eastern Tennessee. Our programs include but are not limited to fish ID, marine adaptations, reef/mangrove/grass bed ecology, water quality, turtle rescue, local reptile education and marine bio diversity.
