Information

Neo-Pastiche: Changes in American Music is a critical musical gathering featuring presentations by living American composers and performers whose work comes from outside standard academic or popular music contexts. Bringing in a diverse group of musicians from around the country, focusing particularly on New York City and local Asheville artists, the festival will take place April 25th through 28th, 2019 at the Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center.

The festival showcases the S.E.M. Ensemble which under the direction of Petr Kotik and with the help of pianist Joe Kubera & percussionist Chris Nappi will present large scale works by Morton Feldman, Julius Eastman and John Cage. Other performers include Eugene Chadbourne, Jeff Witscher, Sarah Louise, DeForrest Brown Jr., Nick James Scavo, Jaclyn Miller, Theodore Cale Schafer, Motown Willie, Kimathi Moore & Elizabeth Lang, Anka, and more!

In the spirit of Western North Carolina’s longstanding history as a point of inspiration and creative and collective self-determination, Neo-Pastiche: Changes in American Music hopes to invite a refreshed sense of what contemporary American music can be – where music can be engaged not only in terms of gallery art or popular culture, but also as a discursive field in its own right.
