Cheryl Anders, Hendersonville Little Theatre’s new Artistic Director, has announced that the originally scheduled production, "Catch Me If You Can", will be replaced by "Mass Appeal", as HLT’s next production. "Mass Appeal", a drama by Bill C. Davis, is the story of an experienced priest, Father Tim Farley, and Mark Dobson, an intense and idealistic seminarian whom Father Tim has reluctantly agreed to take under his wing. Father Tim is comfortably ensconced as pastor of a prosperous Catholic congregation. Without realizing it, he has resorted to flattering and entertaining his flock with sermons that skirt any disturbing issues in order to protect his relatively luxurious lifestyle. Mark, the seminarian, is in immediate conflict with his supposed mentor as he challenges Father Tim’s sybaritic ways. Father Tim is equally appalled by Mark’s confessions of his life before entering the priesthood. Their clash is a touching yet funny examination of the nature of friendship, courage, and love. "Mass Appeal" had a long and critically hailed Broadway run. The Hollywood Reporter called it “…one of those very rare plays which not only entertains but also educates.” Father Tim will be played by Richard Blue, and David MacDonald will play Mark. Audiences will remember Richard in You Say Tomatoes and as the “Cat in the Hat.” David is returning to Hendersonville Little Theatre after a brief vacation from acting. He was last seen in My Cousin Rachel. Jason Denton is making his directorial debut with this show. Many of our patrons know Jason through his work with Gag Order, our local improv troupe. "Mass Appeal" opens at HLT’s Barn, on State Street, between Kanuga and Willow, May 9 and runs through May 25. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8PM and Sunday matinees at 2PM. The box office will open for phone reservations on Monday, April 28. Tickets may be picked up at the Barn, Fridays and Saturdays, between 10AM and 1PM beginning May 1. Tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for those under 18. Call 692-1082 or visit the website, www.hendersonvillelittletheatre.org for more information. (Images provided by Hendersonville Little Theatre.)
