Fire Training in Hendersonville Tonight

The Hendersonville Fire Department will conduct a night training exercise on Main Street, Tuesday, Dec. 12th, starting at 7:00 pm.

They will be performing aerial operations for high-rise building fires in the 600 block. The set up area will be located at the Skyland Hotel and First Citizens Bank. Traffic will be diverted around fire apparatus for short periods of time.

The City of Hendersonville Fire Department was incorporated in 1892. From 1893 to 1925, the Hendersonville Fire Department was located in the old City Hall which was located on the east side of Main Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. In 1928, the Fire Department moved to the first floor of the new (current) City Hall at 145 5th Avenue East.

From 1900 to 1945, the Hendersonville Police Chief was also the Fire Chief (as well as the Public Works Director). Clarence Edney was the last Police Chief to serve as Fire Chief. In 1945, his son, Ed E. Edney became the first person to serve exclusively as Fire Chief.
