Henderson County Public Schools Feed the Need in the Summer

Over this past summer, Henderson County Public Schools participated in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), and offered free lunch to children ages two to eighteen at King Creek, Edneyville Community Center, and Patton Park.

Additionally the Child Nutrition Department fed breakfast to students in need at various school locations.

The response was overwhelming, and our Child Nutrition Department ended up serving 37,090 lunches and 18,694 breakfasts from June 20 through Aug. 19 – which was 15,169 more lunch and 7,036 more breakfast meals served than during the summer of 2014-15.

The SFSP ensures that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session.
