Hendersonville Family YMCA Calls for School Supply Donations for After School Program

The Hendersonville Family YMCA’s Togetherhood group is collecting donations of school supplies for the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County’s afterschool program from August 1st through August 14th.

Afterschool participants ages 6–12 will use the supplies during “Power Hour,” their required afterschool homework time. Items requested include lined paper, composition books, pencils, glue sticks, scissors, crayons and markers. Donations can be dropped off at the Hendersonville Family YMCA.

Ed and Margaret Cole, Togetherhood Committee co-chairs, say, “We are extremely impressed with the Boys & Girls Club facilities and the many activities offered to the different age groups, from day care services to art classes to sports to afterschool study time. And all of it at minimal cost to parents. We are looking forward to assisting the Boys & Girls Club with school supplies collected at the Hendersonville Family YMCA and helping out at the upcoming service day.”

“We are grateful to the Togetherhood committee and everyone in our community for their help,” says Bonnie Gibson, education coordinator for the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County. “The children will use the donated school supplies during ‘Power Hour,’ which is our homework time. But we also give items to children who might not have the resources to bring their own supplies to their classroom during the school day.”
