Brevard Music Center Presents First Mondays Concert on March 2nd

The Brevard Music Center presents its First Mondays concert series on March 2, 2015 at 12:30 pm in Scott Concert Hall at the Porter Center for Performing Arts.

The series continues on March 2, 2015, with a concert by cellist Alistair MacRae and soprano Allison Pohl.

Cellist Alistair MacRae has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral principal throughout North America and in Europe, Asia, South America, and the Middle East. His playing has been praised for its “rich sound and lyrical phrasing” (Palm Beach Daily News) and his performances have been featured in radio broadcasts across the United States on WQXR, WWFM, WDAV, WCQS, and Vermont Public Radio.

Soprano Allison Pohl made her professional debut as Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro under the baton of Maestro Stephen Lord at Boston Lyric Opera. She has performed widely in the United States as well as in Italy and China, drawing positive reviews for her “sparkling voice” (outerstage.com) and “exuberant” performances (Opera News). Of her performance in L’elisir d’amore at Virginia Opera, The Washington Post wrote: “Allison Pohl stood out with a ripe, flavorful soprano and ample character.”

February’s local charity partner is Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Brevard, is a volunteer organization entering its 37th year providing mid-day meal service to homebound clients in Transylvania County. The generosity of the community has enabled MOW to deliver over 10,000 meals in 2014. The men and women served by MOW receive not only warm nutritious meals, but also care and friendship. Clients pay for their meals according to their financial capability, but no client is ever excluded because of inability to pay. The MOW team includes over 80 community members who volunteer their time service and energy.

The First Mondays series is presented through May by the Brevard Music Center, a world-renowned summer music institute and festival. The Music Center presents 80 public concerts in the summer season, more than 30 of which have no admission charge.

This concert is free and open to the public. For more information on First Mondays, visit brevardmusic.org. For more information on Meals on Wheels, visit meals-on-wheels.com.
