Volunteer Opportunities for Earth Day

Earth Day is April 22! Looking for ways to celebrate and ensure our community is clean and green?

“Environmental Support” is one of many searchable project “issue areas” we provide. Our partners with a focus on Environmental Support and Education have the perfect project to fit your interest and schedule – Earth Day or ANY day!

Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway
Click here to express interest.  Help keep the Blue Ridge Parkway clean and green!   Volunteers are needed to collect litter to maintain the natural and pristine beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway, particularly along the busy commuter corridor between the NC Arboretum (Hwy 191/MM394) and the Folk Art Center (MM382). Litter removal also protects local wildlife by reducing unnatural foods and smells that attract them to this high traffic area of the Parkway.  This is a great project for a family, a social group, or a concerned citizen.  Get some fresh air, get some exercise, and make a difference!

Riverlink
Click here to express interest. Form a Clean Stream Team with your school, neighborhood, business, or civic/church/youth group and help keep the French Broad River watershed clean. Signage indicating your team’s adoption will be provided after two river cleanups.

WNC Alliance
Click here to express interest. WNC Alliance needs volunteers to help monitor water quality of local streams throughout our region. Volunteer tasks  include working in streams to take water samples and determine whether or not streams used for swimming are safe for this use.  Volunteers will be trained and supplied with the proper equipment from the Alliance.

Children First/CIS
Click here to express interest. The Family Resource Center at Emma oversees a Community Garden for the surrounding neighborhood.  The garden supplements the food boxes the Family Resource Center distributes with fresh organic produce. Volunteers are needed (March -October) to serve anywhere from once a week to twice a month to weed, cut grass, mulch, plant and most importantly, harvest the vegetables!
