Folk Art Center

The Center is the home of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, representing craft artists from Southern Appalachia. The Allanstand Craft Shop carries the work of over 300 of these guild members. Upstairs the Folk Art Center offers a gallery which showcases changing exhibits of regional and national scope. Daily craft demonstrations April-December. Open daily 9am-6pm, Apr.-Dec.; 9am-5pm Jan.-Mar. Admission is free.

Asheville Art Museum

The museum houses its own impressive permanent collection of 20th century American art while also frequently playing host to visiting collections from other prestigious museums. Allow an hour or more for a visit. Open Tues.-Sat. 10am-5pm, Sun. 1-5pm. Fri. until 8pm in the summer.

Hands On! – A Child’s Gallery

GHands On! offers an affordable, educational and fun way to spend the day with your children, grandchildren, and students ages 1 – 10. This is a safe gathering place where kids can be kids while learning is nurtured. Field trips, special events, and birthday parties are welcome. We are located at 318 N. Main Street, between Black Bear Coffee and Pink Corsets.

Henderson County Heritage Museum

The Henderson County Heritage Museum brings history alive as the story of Henderson County is told, from the Cherokee and pioneers who carved homes out of the wilderness to today.

 

Carl Sandburg Home

This historic site consists of a 22 room house, barns, sheds, rolling pastures, walking trails, two small lakes, ponds, flower and vegetable gardens, and an orchard. This is where Carl Sandburg felt the peace and solitude he required to write.feature story

The Asheville Quilt Show

Visit the 34th Annual Asheville Quilt Show “Quilts: Colorful, Creative, and Cozy” from Sept 30 through October 2th, Friday, Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the WNC Agriculture Center, Davis Center. Featuring over 300 quilts, quilts for sale, kids sewing station, a hand-made item gift shop, vendors, and product raffle. Entrance fee is $7.

Thomas Wolfe House

The boyhood home of the author Thomas Wolfe (Look Homeward, Angel) is furnished with family posessions and open for tours (appx. 30 min.). A number of special events take place each year. Small admission fee.
