Aging Programs
Jackie Whitaker with the Area Agency on Aging at Land-of-Sky Regional Council will answer questions about aging programs in Henderson County the first Wednesday of each month at the Sammy Williams Senior Center. Lunch is provided for persons 60 and over. Call 828-692-4203 for more information.

ABC's of Alzheimers meets from noon-1pm the second Wednesday of each month at the Alzheimer's Associaion, WNC Chapter Office in Asheville. Sessions are free of charge but space is limited. Please call in advance at 828-254-7363. Bring a brown bag lunch. Drinks and cookies will be provided.

Cancer Outreach Services
Mission St. Joseph's holds a variety of cancer outreach programs for people with cancer or people in recovery. Visit the website for all the meeting days and times.

Celebrate Recovery, a program designed to hep participants find freedom from a variety of addictions, meets at 6PM Thursdays at Mud Creek Baptist Church, 403 Rutledge Drive.   Call 692-1262 for more information.

Compassionate Friends

Family & Consumer Education Strengthening families is the goal of the Depart of Family and Consumer Sciences at NC Sate University and this program. These programs focus on preventative education and provide knowledge needed by families to improve their quality of life through programs and education in: human development; foods nutrition and food safety; family resource management; and human environment. Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
The new positive Solution-oriented suppport group for FMS and CFS meets a 6 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month. For more information, call 828-698-5875.

Food & Nutrition Education Program 
Participants learn topics such as food safety, choosing health foods, meal planning, and food budgeting. Participants make weekly appointments for lessons in their homes or at an extension site. Lessons last about one hour and include preparation and hands-on activities. For more information, call 828-697-4891.

Four Seasons Hospice offers a variety of bereavement services, which are open to the community, including regular meetings of support groups. For more information call 828-692-3931.

GriefShare, for mourning the loss of someone close, meets 6Pm Thursdays at Mud Creek Baptist Chrch, 403 Rutledge Drive. Cost for materials: $12. For more info, call 692-1262.

The Healing Place is a sexual assault response and resource center which offers support groups for adult survivors of sexual assault. The Healing Place is located at 100B Chadwick Sq. Court. Herpes Support Group meets at 7pm every first Tuesday of the month at the Alcove meeting room on the second floor of MAHEC at 501 Biltmore Avenue. The meetings offer a confidential setting for sharing information, including drug suppression therapy. Call 828-258-8014 for more information.

"Just Us Girls"
Weekly support group for mill school-age girls recovering from sexual trauma, meets 5:30 to 6:30pm Thursdays at the Healing Place. For more information, call 828-692-0495.

NAMI Four Seasons (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) holds six support meetings for friends and family members of people with mental illness from 10am-11:30am the fourth Saturday of each month. There are two meetings each month for families with an adult; 5PM the second Thursday of each month at Pardee Education Center, Blue Ridge Mall, and 10AM the fourth Saturday of each month at GRace Lutheran Church, corner of 6th Ave. W and Blythe ST. THere are also two meeting a month for families with a child; 8:30AM the first THursday of each month at Pardee Education Center, BLue Ridge Mall. Overeaters Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their struggles and offer support, experience, strength, and hope. Out For Lunch is a goods and nutrition program that teaches income eligible participants how to stretch their food dollars, plan nutritious and health meals for their families and food preparation skills. Parenting Classes series of classes for pregnant women and their families; and new parents. Topics include minor discomforts of pregnancy and labor, labor and delivery, nutrition in pregnancy, newborn care, breastfeeding, infant development, etc. Attendees that complete the series receive a layette item such as humidifier.
