thru September 21 - Oil Paintings by Luke Allsbrook - Opening Friday, May 23 and continuing through Sunday, September 21, 2008, the Arboretum will host a landscape painting exhibit by internationally known artist Luke Allsbrook in the Baker Exhibit Center. The exhibit is titled "Our Precious Land: Visions and Scenes of North Carolina" and presents oil paintings on canvas that reflect the beauty of farmland across the mountain region and other natural and created landscapes. Since 1985, the UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work has offered its Master of Social Work degree through the Asheville Graduate Center on the campus of UNC Asheville. This distance education program enables students to study in Asheville, completing the first half of the program within two years. August 23 thru September 25 - “NO FEAR OF CONTENT” - Flood Gallery Fine Art Center is proud to present the first Asheville solo exhibition of artist Jim Buonaccorsi, entitled “No Fear of Content.” Buonaccorsi’s work, on view August 23rd through September 27th, acts as salt in the open wound of complacency and translates life’s fears and meanings into a universal language. This underlying theme essentially discredits the idea of "art for art sake." Buonaccorsi’s work is saturated with historical references, and offers its viewers an opportunity to change history by not repeating it.

August 23 - Fall Fitness Jumpstart Program - O3 Health and Fitness is holding a Fall Fitness Jumpstart Program 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn on Tunnel Road. The program is geared toward people who want to start a fitness program but don't know where to start.
